Jitendra Bisht

Jitendra Bisht joined the PhD program in 2023. His work explores societal and institutional responses to droughts in central India and their intersections with conflict incidence during the 18th and 19th centuries. He seeks to understand past responses to climate extremes in India through the experiences and practices of agrarian communities as well as through the policies of native and colonial rulers. He has previously worked on climate, agriculture, and urban policy issues in India. This involved, notably, studies on the impact of environmental degradation and climate change in urban slums, and promotion of millets for improving agriculture and nutrition outcomes in India. A wannabe food historian on weekends, Jitendra can be typically found gushing over Mughlai cuisine, trekking the Himalayas, and the Delta Blues.
